She is setting up a meeting with Mme. de Gheise before she leaves for Paris. Harriet would like the Markhams to come. She is also giving a concert at Carnegie Hall and Mme. Hissini de moss will be there to sing The Cross.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
